Part of Cornfield Road fell into a terrible state of disrepair last year and the area has been cordoned off with buses, cars and pedestrians having to avoid the pothole by the bus stop close to the NatWest Bank.

But an East Sussex Highways spokesman confirmed this week repairs would be carried out starting Monday March 27.

“The work, which was scheduled following liaison with local traders, will take around seven days and work will be carried out between 8am and 5pm on weekdays,” said the spokesperson.

“Temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place at the junction with Hyde Gardens.

“We’d like to thank residents for bearing with us while we’ve made arrangements for the work to take place, which required co-ordinating it with the installation of new bus stops.

“The road deteriorated following the installation of temporary bus stops moved from Terminus Road and we’ve had to negotiate with bus companies over the location and size of the replacement stops and review objections regarding the placement of the new stops.

“The work we’re doing will create a smooth, safe road surface which should be able to withstand the extra demands placed upon it by regular bus traffic.”
