Mayor Had It Licked

LITTLEHAMPTON mayor Mark Butler raised £300 for Save The Children when he sank his teeth into perhaps his most gruelling challenge yet eating a gigantic jam doughnut without licking his lips.

Wick bakers A. W. Biggs organised the mayor's doughnut challenge as part of a week jam-packed with fund-raising activities.

After he successfully completed his challenge, Mark admitted the experience had been "hideous".

"I don't want to look at another doughnut ever again. The only one I want to look at is the one in the mirror," he joked.

The doughnut, three times bigger than the regular size, was baked by Phillip and Sally Biggs' son Mark, who is studying for his NVQ2 to qualify as a master baker.

A. W. Biggs bakers are donating 5p per doughnut sold this week to Save The Children and buying a doughnut also entitles you to enter their free prize draw to win one of a selection of cakes displayed in their window.

And local shopkeepers have donated prizes to another raffle, which will be drawn on Saturday at midday.

Tickets cost just 1 and there are some great prizes up for grabs, including a satellite system, mobile phone and champagne.
