Mayor to attend Hailsham Festival

The Mayor of Hailsham will be attending the grand opening of this year’s Hailsham Festival.

Hailsham is gearing up for a season of art, literature, music, dance, drama and street entertainment.

The nine-day series of events will take place at various locations in and around Hailsham from Saturday September 7 to Sunday September 15 and is being organised for the seventh consecutive year by Art Gallery North in partnership with local businesses.

The Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Jo Bentley, will attend the official opening of the festival at Hailsham Parish Church on September 7, alongside the High Sheriff of East Sussex Graham Peters.

Cllr Bentley said: “The Festival of Arts and Culture is a terrific way of giving professional artists in Sussex anopportunity to showcase their artwork to the local community and visitors to the town.

“An extensive range of music, theatre events and street entertainment has once again been skillfully organised by local businesses and our friends at Gallery North, who I commend for all their hard work over the past few months.”

Confirmed performers announced for this year’s festival include East Sussex based performance group Baroque Opera Live and internationally acclaimed musician Dirk Campbell, performing with his band Kalamus.

The open studio art trail programme will showcase the work of local artists and emerging artistic talent will be encouraged with a host of competitions and opportunities to get involved.
