Mid Sussex based charity reMEmber has joined a national ‘Research Collaborative’ set up by eminent specialists searching for a breakthrough.

Janice Kent, who founded reMEmber with her husband, Bill (pictured), said: “This national initiative is a most important development. Up to now research into ME has been done rather haphazardly by a variety of different organisations.

“There has been a tendency by researchers to look at just one aspect of the illness, such as muscle pain, in isolation. What the collaborative can do is get researchers to concentrate on what exactly causes the illness and from that develop an effective treatment.”

You can find out about the latest research at a conference being organised by reMEmber to coincide with ME Awareness Week. Eminent medical specialists have been invited to the event at the Sheldrake Suite, Martlets Hall, Burgess Hill on Saturday, May 11 at 2pm.

Dr Amolak Bansal, consultant physician at St Helier Hospital and head of the Surrey CFS/ME Service will give a presentation on the illness, research and emerging knowledge.

Dr Charles Shepherd, Medical Adviser to the ME Association and author of “Living with ME” will discuss a range of “hot topics” including changes in the benefits system and how they could impact on ME patients. His talk will be useful, not just for people with ME but for anyone with concerns about benefits.
