Medieval play to be staged on the South Downs near Lewes

Do you have what it takes to join Simon de Montfort’s medieval army?

The Company is presenting Montfort’s March in May, a new site-specific play by Suzi Hopkins commemorating the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Lewes.

It is billed as being suitable for anyone who can march four miles over the South Downs, and is willing to help the spread of democracy.

Performances will take place on May 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 2pm, with a twilight performance on the actual anniversary of the battle, May 14 (6pm).

For all shows the audience meets at the bus stop on the A275/Nevill Road by Nevill Crescent, Lewes.

Tickets are £10/£6 from Lewes Tourist Information Centre (01273 483448) and Brighton Festival Fringe (01273 917272).

Audiences should wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
