Staff at Chase vetinary surgery, in De La Warr Road were astounded.

The White British Giant, named Daddy s Girl, tipped the scales at a whopping 26lbs at her official weigh-in.

The previous figure recorded by the Guiness Book of Records was 25lb.

Vanessa and Eddie Barden, bred the rabbit themselves.

Mrs Barden said: "We re delighted with what we ve achieved."

Daddy s Girl - an 18-month- old young adult - had been heavier weeks before.

But, in typically feminine fashion, she had slimmed-down by the time of the weigh-in.

Karen Kasswell, of Chase vets said: "We re pleased to have been involved and that the rabbit was in healthy condition."

She urged rabbit owners to take extra care during the winter months, and to monitor their animal s weight and diet.

What s the secret of Daddy s Girl s spectacular success?

Daddy s Girl is keeping that to herself.
