Three Peacehaven entrants to the Brighton Memory Walk on Sunday were raising awareness and funds just two weeks after their gran died.
Hollie Pyle, Chloe Bunce and Felicity Sodhy were among around 500 people who took to the streets of the city to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. The star, who also completed the 10km walk said:
Actor John Altman, best known as Nasty Nick Cotton in EastEnders, kicked off the walk and completed 10km himself.
The walk wound its way through Brighton City Centre, past the pier, onto the seafront towards the marina and then finally back to the pavilion. Most of the participants were there for family members who either live with or passed away with dementia.
There were two distances available, a 2km and 10km.
Amongst the first over the finish line were Hollie, Chloe and Felicity
Chloe said: “We did the 2km for our gran Elsie Phillips who died just two weeks ago.
“I think there needs to be more awareness.
“Until our gran got the condition we knew very little about it, but it does seem to be quite common and so that’s why we wanted to do the walk. It’s great to see so many people.”
Kate Moore, Operations Director for the South, thanked all the walkers and volunteers and said: “We are so pleased to see so many people turn up and support us. It has been a great success, the beach theme went down well and I am sure we have made thousands of pounds.’’
