Men rule cuisine at Yapton spring show

It was a man's world in the cookery classes of the Yapton Cottage Gardeners'spring show.

The chefs firmly ruled the kitchen by winning seven of the nine first

prizes awarded in the annual event.

The culinary challenges were particularly well supported. They included making a jar of lemon curd and four small gypsy creams.

The show last Saturday marked the start of the year's season of friendly competition. The 31 exhibitors came from an area bounded by Billingshurst, Chichester and West Preston and submitted 201 entries.

They included an excellent staging of daffodils, plus fine support from cut flowers, pot plants, cacti and succulents and vegetables.

A quite superb display of flower arrangements was a delight to the eye and a warm smell from the blooms greeted some 70 visitors who viewed the displays during the afternoons.

They also looked round the sidestalls which offered the choice of various plants, greetings cards, a raffle, cards and confectionery.
