Metal thieves strike again

Police are appealing for the public to be on the look out for metal thieves, after a large quantity of cable was stolen in rural Rother last week.

Two suspicious vehicles were seen in the early hours of September 30 in Battle Road, John's Cross.

It was later discovered that a man hole cover had been lifted and a large quantity of cable had been taken.

And on October 1, at around 12.30am, 25 metres of cable was stolen at the A269 in Ninfield.

The cable belonged to EDF Energy, who also reported a further theft of generator leads and 100 metres of cable.

Sergeant Dan Russell, of Sussex Police, said: "Metal thefts are on the increase, especially copper.

"Please report any suspicious vehicles that appear to be working by the road side, especially late at night.

"The suspects make out they are genuine workers, however sometimes they are not!"

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999.
