MGM House plans delayed

Plans to convert MGM House, in Heene Road, into 33 retirement flats, 59 assisted living units and 10 affordable flats were due to be considered by Worthing Borough Council’s planning committee last night (Thursday, December 17).

But the plans, which drew objections because of proposals to fell a large tree, were deferred.

Head of planning James Appleton said: “The key issue has been Highways comments. They have expressed concern about whether adequate information has been submitted to address their concerns.

“The applicant is seeking to clarify if anything is still outstanding but it needs some more time to ensure the concerns have been resolved.”

Residents and councillors gathered outside the building on Saturday in a peaceful protest against the loss of the tree, which stands outside the front of the site.

Resident Mark Pawlak told the Herald: ““The whole site is going to be redeveloped.It’s not a case of us trying to fight the development, it just seems a shame that natural landmarks could be destroyed.”
