Middleton council rates freeze

Residents of Middleton will be paying a same-again amount to their local council this year.

The parish councillors have decided to freeze their share of the new overall bill which households will receive in the coming months.

This means that the charge for a band D property will remain at 15.15 from this April. The 37,000 which will be produced by this precept will be almost 3,000 below the council's expected spending.

The shortfall will be met through careful management of the council's bank balances by its clerk, David Allsopp.

But he told councillors that 2009/10 would have to be a time of consolidation after 20,000 was being spent on capital projects in the current year.

He also warned that funding for any unbudgeted schemes in the next 12 months would come direct from reserves.
