Midhurst Community Hospital: Closing hospital '˜is not safe' claims GP

There were cheers and applause at a public meeting last night (Thursday, May 12) when Midhurst doctor Rowena Hill told health officials: 'I want you to understand closing Midhurst Community Hospital is dangerous.'

She said there had been three months over Christmas when social care at home was not available to anyone in the Midhurst area - even those who could afford to pay for it.

Sending elderly people to hospital elsewhere was not safe as there was the risk of many infections.

“Frances Russell is right, there are lots of health initiatives, but they don’t work in Midhurst. We have said it again and again. We are meant to be able to access social care to prevent hospital admissions - hospital admission are not safe.”

She called on the Sussex Community Trust to give a date for the reopening of the Midhurst hospital.
