The Midhurst and District branch of the Royal British Legion has thanked members of the community for their generosity.

Poppy appeal organiser Arthur Douglas-Nugent said: “I would like to say a resounding thank you to all those good people in Midhurst and District who contributed to this year’s Poppy Appeal.

“At just over £20,000 we are slightly down on last year’s record but ahead of the previous year.

“We counted 28,749 coins which weighed in at a staggering 160kgs, which is over 3Cwt.

“The need to care for those who served and their dependents goes on and to this cause the British Legion is entirely dedicated.”
