Midhurst students get their big X Factor break

Students from the Midhurst based Centre Stage Academy Theatre School will be in the spotlight on ITV's X Factor show tomorrow night (Saturday, November 12).

Their big chance came because their former Street Dance teacher is X Factor hopeful Nathan Lewis who stars with the boy band ‘5 After Midnight’.

Bex Landsberger, principal of the theatre school said: “We are all so very proud of Nathan and being given the chance to film with ‘5 After Midnight’ and be featured on the show truly is a great honour.”

An ITV film crew spent Wednesday afternoon (November 9) at The Grange Community and Leisure Centre in Midhurst filming the students with Nathan, who lives in Worthing.

“They had a fantastic time seeing him again and have learned a lot about the show and what goes on behind the scenes.

“Nathan’s hard work and dedication proves that dreams really can come true and we wish him the very best of luck with the show.”

Nathan was Street Dance teacher at the school for two years before he auditioned for X Factor.

“The children have always adored him and have been following him on the show since day one. When we got the call to say the ITV production team wanted to film a special dance lesson with us in Midhurst we were ecstatic,” said Bex.

“The children stormed in to the studio at The Grange hugging, high fiving and raising the roof with cheers! To their surprise Nathan had bought band mate Jordan Lee along with him.

“The students took part in a question and answer session with ‘5 After Midnight’ and discovered a few secrets about the show.

“It was then time to get to work and take part in the dance lesson they’d all been waiting for. After a quick warm up the students were taught the Thriller routine that ‘5 After Midnight’ performed in the show.”

Once the dance class had finished students William Hubbard, Lauren Cole and Monica Shardlow were interviewed by the crew to give their feedback on the day.

At the end of the session Nathan sat down with theatre school graduate Charlie Maloney (16), Charlie now studies street dance at a studio in London and was inspired by Nathan.

Last Saturday the boys’ rendition of The Spice Girls ‘Say You’ll Be There’ blew all the judges away. Sharon Osbourne told them it was their best performance of the competition so far.
