Midnight walk for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice

Now in its fifth year, the walk will take place at midnight on Saturday, May 17 around the streets and seafront of Eastbourne, bringing together hundreds of women, walking under the stars, to raise money for the hospice.

This year there is a new second route of four miles, adding to the already successful ten mile route so more people can join in the fun while raising money for a good cause.

The night begins with a group warm-up session before the walkers begin their journey from The Sovereign Centre in Eastbourne. After walking along the promenade to Sovereign Harbour and looping around, the ladies will then make their way towards Holywell and back to the Sovereign Centre, taking in the beautiful sight of Eastbourne Pier at night. Ladies opting for the four mile route will return to the Sovereign Centre after the harbour route.

Lora Waymark whose son Arthur receives care from Chestnut Tree House said: “Arthur, who is only ten months old was diagnosed with a very rare and life-limiting epileptic syndrome called ‘Migrating Partial Epilepsy in Infancy’ or MPEI and will only have a very short life.

“Chestnut Tree House has shone a light on what seemed to be a very dark and gloomy prognosis for Arthur.

“Chestnut Tree House has helped us to stay positive and focus on giving Arthur everything he needs to enjoy life. The hospice with their amazing, dedicated and specialist staff, care for and support Arthur, myself and our family. They don’t ask for any money and they will be there no matter what, in whatever situation we need them, that’s why they are such a lifeline to us.”

Chestnut Tree House needs to raise £6,850 a day to provide all the specialist care services, both at the hospice and out in the community across East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire.

The hospice receives less than eight percent funding from central government to help cover this cost and therefore relies heavily on the generosity, help and support of the local community and events like the Night to Remember.

For women aged 16 and over that want to get involved, there’s a discounted early-bird entry fee for those registering before Friday, March 14 and entry includes a fundraising pack, an exclusive t-shirt, torch and medal as well as refreshments en route and breakfast on return.

Registration closes on Friday, May 2.
