Mildred the star of UNA coffee morning

Fine weather kept practically everyone outdoors during the coffee morning held on Bank Holiday Monday by the local branch of United Nations Assocation.

The event was at the home of Edward and Barbara Echlin in Thornbank Crescent.

Spokesman for UNA in Bexhill Alan Bula said: "It is a remarkable garden. They have more than 80 different varieties of fruit trees and fruit bushes, and on their roof solar panels facing south generate electricity."

Alan sang the praises of Mildred the Pekinese, who he described as "the mascot for the biggest domestic environmental project in Bexhill".

He added: "The coffee morning was well attended...as the saying goes, a good time was had by all. For most people the weather was good enough to have refreshments out in the garden. We were prepared to serve indoors if necessary but I think everyone stayed outdoors - it was quite good."
