Miracle baby's familydeserve a night out

THE mother of a baby boy who has spent most of the year in and out of hospital has been nominated for our Nando's Night Out competition.

Tracey Sharp, from Donnington, was nominated for the night out at the Chichester Gate restaurant by her mother Caroline Bullen.

Mrs Sharp's son Luke, who will be one year old tomorrow, was born with one extra chromosome and with Pierre Robin Syndrome, a condition that causes the chin to develop improperly, restricting the air passage.

It means he has a special tube through his throat to help him breathe and he has to be fed through a tube directly into his stomach.

Mrs Bullen said they could never have a babysitter as anyone who looked after him would have needed the medical training his parents had been given.

Mrs Bullen feels the family needs to spend some quality time together after such a traumatic year.

She said: 'It has been a very difficult year. They have been constantly in and out of hospital '“ it is like their second home.

'Tracey and all the family have been through an awful lot. If she wins it will be a nice sign of how much she is appreciated for what she has done and had to go through.'

Luke has been to Great Ormond Street Hospital several times for surgery, once to repair his cleft palate, and then to repair a hole in his heart.

The surgery on his heart was less than successful and he had to spend time recovering in intensive care.

He was also born with an extra rib. Through all this his mother and father have been constantly by his side.

Mrs Bullen said Luke has been referred to by medics and others as a miracle baby.
