Missed bin collections in the Wealden area should be picked up today (Friday August 2) and during the weekend, Wealden District Council has said.
It is asking people to leave missed bins out. It will also open its customer contact centre to deal with queries tomorrow morning (Saturday August 3).
Residents were left confused about their bin collection times after a new waste and recycling scheme came into force.
The new scheme is a joint waste contract between Eastbourne, Wealden, Hastings and Rother.
Residents were angry after bins were not collected and the new brown bins for garden waste were not delivered on time.
Wealden District cllr OI Lin Shing (pictured) said: “Many residents reported to me that they are confused with the new collection service, they have not received their new bin.”
Rowena Moore, Wealden cabinet member for Customer servies and benefits said: “We were expecting there to be a number of teething difficulties as new rounds were introduced to a rural district as large as Wealden.
“Kier are adopting a system of separate crews for refuse, recycling and garden waste which means each crew will need a fortnight to familiarise themselves with their new routes. There are a few pockets of houses which crews may not yet be aware are included on their rounds and we are notifying Kier of these as a matter of urgency. As a result of the new rounds we have been experiencing a high level of calls at our customer contact centre.
“We would like to apologise for any long delays customers may have experienced. We have deployed extra members of staff to help take residents’ calls and opened the call centre last Saturday to provide assistance.”
