Missing man’s body found on Eastbourne beach

A missing man’s body has been found on a beach in Eastbourne.

Sussex Police said a member of the public found the 35-year-old man’s body near the Holywell Tea Chalet on Sunday afternoon (July 5), shortly after 4.30pm.

Police said the man had been reported missing from his home in Surrey and officers believe his body had washed ashore.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and the matter has been passed on to the coroner’s office, say police.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said, “The body of a man was discovered on the beach at Eastbourne on Sunday afternoon (July 5).

“The discovery, by a member of the public, was made near the Holywell Tea Chalet shortly after 4.30pm. It is believed that the body had washed ashore.

“He was identified as a 35-year-old man who had been reported missing from his home in Surrey.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and the matter has been passed to the coroner’s officer.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service and Eastbourne Coastguard Rescue Team also attended the incident.

A Coastguard spokesperson said, “At 4.48pm on Sunday (July 5), HM Coastguard received a report of an incident involving a casualty at Holywell, Eastbourne.

“Eastbourne Coastguard Rescue Team, South East Ambulance and Sussex Police attended.”
