Missing Worthing man found safe and well

AN ELDERLY man has been found safe and well after a police operation was launched when he vanished from his care home.

John Morgan, 86, of Tennyson Road, Worthing, disappeared on Friday at around 2pm, sparking a large-scale search operation when he failed to return that night.

But following a police appeal for information launched early the next morning, his family found him at a hotel in the town on Saturday afternoon.

When he disappeared Mr Morgan took his mobility scooter with him and police were asking people to look out for him riding around.

At one point Hotel 900, the Sussex Police helicopter, was going to be sent up to search for Mr Morgan, but the plan was called off when it was decided the search area was too wide.

A police spokesman said: "It appears he just left for the night to go to a htel and had no idea of the worry he caused.

"He is now back at his care home and is safe and well."

This was the third time in a week police had issued an appeal for information on missing Worthing people.

The appeals for information into the disappearances of Gill Bhatt from Durrington and Elaine Taggart from Ferring, were both renewed last week.
