Mission was rescued by Free Rein Rescue in Beckley, from a small, dark stable where he was confined apart from being let out for exercise.

Since then, the 10-year-old has had three unsuccessful loans and moved to Brownbread Horse Rescue Centre, who is desperately trying to find him a home.

“Mission is a 12.2 hands gelding that has touched our hearts and exhausted our efforts to find a solution for his future,” a centre spokesman said.

“He was much stressed, rather difficult to handle and, because he was desperately trying to go somewhere, was aptly named Mission.”

After his rescue, Mission was castrated and he was lucky to find an ideal loan home straight away.

Unfortunately that came to an end and he arrived at Brownbread, where he has been for two years.

During that time, he has tried two more loan homes unsuccessfully, but the centre believe this is not down to Mission.

“He can get quite stressed when being moved about and cannot run or live next to mares due to his riggy behaviour,” the spokesman said.

“However, apart from this, Mission has nothing wrong with him.

“He is a dear, gentle pony with no health issues and a most intelligent outlook with small children.

“He is quiet to be ridden and just needs someone prepared to love and school him on as we believe he would make some child a useful all-rounder.

“We never imagined how difficult it would be to re-home a ridden pony.”

The centre set off on yet another mission to try another loan home on Sunday, November 15.

“The cruel treatment that Mission experienced is entirely to blame for his present predicament,” the spokesman said.

“If only he had been castrated at a younger age.”

Brownbread was established in 1972 and has many horses looking for new homes and provides a valuable resource to horse owners.

The centre took in its smallest ever horse and first miniature Shetland pony, Carnival, who is about the same size as a dog in August.
