The Restaurant Group distributed leaflets to nearby residents to get some feedback on the plan for a Frankie & Benny’s and a Chiquito before a formal planning application is lodged.

Many people commented on the Observer’s initial story but opinions are divided on whether it would be a good or bad thing.

The plans were well-received by some on social media with many positive comments about the proposal.

However, many others were concerned about the additional traffic it may bring and developing further into the field.

Norman Beck said: “Creeping development which will set a precedent to develop the rest of the field. Bexhill and St Leonards will merge.”

Lisa Waughman wrote: “[I] am not opposed to the restaurants but my concern would be the increase in traffic. Bexhill, Hastings and De La Warr Road cannot cope as it is without giving people more reasons to use it”

And Rian Hill believes all planning around the Glyne Gap should be stopped until the road is sorted out.

But Adam Lightspeed was more positive as he said: “Do it. There is a serious lack of decent chain restaurants in the Hastings/Bexhill area.”

Shelby Kate Barton said it would benefit the town by providing more jobs.
