Modern Doomsday book to record 1066 country in 2016

A modern Doomsday record of ordinary people's lives in the area will be created as part of the Battle of Hastings 950th anniversary commemorations.

Hastings Speaks will be collecting diaries, blogs, pictures to put together a comprehensive snapshot of 1066 country in 2016.

The group will also be putting on a series of events, starting with a Diary Day to listen to residents on May 12.

Other events include workshops on creative writing to add to the record as well as neighbourhood meetings in partnership with .

Once all of the entries are in, they will be uploaded to Hastings Speaks’ blog, www.hastingsspeaks.blogspot.co.uk, and published in its magazine.

A permanent archive will be handed over to Hastings Borough Council.

The project culminates in a spoken word event in October, as part of the 1066 contemporary festival, where will be inviting people to share their diary entries, focusing on the headlines emerging from the project.
