Police said the owner left the property in Rusper Road just after 6pm and returned at around 7.40pm to find a man walking down the left side of the house and then onto the road. When questioned the man said: “I’ve just cut through”.

Officers added the french doors at the back of the home had been forced and some jewellery, as well as around £500 in change, had been taken.

The man seen walking down the driveway has been described by police as white, of skinny build, in his mid twenties and spoke with an Irish accent. He was also wearing a hat and jeans.

Detective Sergeant Michelle Auger said: “We believe someone broke in during the ninety minutes that the owner was out that evening.

“It would still have been light outside so we’re asking anyone who saw something suspicious to either email [email protected] or call 101 quoting reference 1362 of 24/09.”
