Money stolen from Billingshurst care home

POLICE are seeking a man who stole cash from a elderly resident at a Billingshurst care home.

She gave him from her purse what she thought was a small amount of cash and he left. She then realised that he had taken more than £100 and had left no goods.

The suspect is described as white, about 6’1”, and aged in his twenties, with a long face, and short wavy mousy hair. He wore a dark short jacket, and dark bottoms and was carrying a large holdall.

A Sussex Police spokesman said; “This was a nasty deception carried out on an elderly lady in her own home. If you saw the man in the area on Friday, perhaps calling door to door, or can help with any other information, please call us on 101 quoting serial 0579 of 22/3. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“We always remind residents, especially the elderly, to be very cautious when dealing with cold callers of any sort. Demand evidence of identity and a genuine reason for their being there. If in doubt keep them out. If they are still present dial 999 or if you have any other suspicions about such callers call us on 101 at any time.”
