More drivers caughtin drink crack-down

The latest cases bring the total number of people ordered to appear in court to 48 since Sussex Police’s drink and drug campaign started on December 1.

Those arrested include a driver from Beckley.

Police are continuing their policy of naming and shaming those who get behind the wheel after drinking. Chief Inspector Natalie Moloney said: “We know that there are a group of drivers who do not believe the drink-drive limit is there for them but I still feel sad and frustrated when so many people are being charged with offences.

“Drink and drug driving makes the roads of Sussex more dangerous for everyone. Clearly some are not listening or are choosing to ignore our attempts to educate them through our warning campaign. They need to know that we will make every effort to find them and get them off the roads.”

The latest round of arrests include 44 year old Rik Cowlard, whose vehicle was stopped in Ninfield Road, Bexhill, and Darren Porter, 34, of Hastings, who was stopped by police at Warrior Square, St Leonards.

One driver was arrested after a van hit an unmarked police car in Hove.

Representatives from the police and fire and ambulance services took part in an online questions and answers session on the effects of drink-driving this week.

While officers tweeted during road-side checks on Tuesday evening.
