More governors needed at Felpham school

Volunteers are needed to become governors at a Felpham school.

Downview Primary School has joined with national charity Governors One-Stop Shop in a drive to recruit a number of new governors.

They are seeking volunteers with an interest in the local community and in helping to improve education standards within the school.

Sam Butlin, the SGOSS governor placement manager, said: "A governor's role is to be a 'critical friend' to the head teacher while helping with the overall management of the school.

"Becoming a school governor is an excellent way to get involved in the local community and help ensure local children receive the highest standards of education possible.

"A governor does not need to be a parent nor do they need to have any specific skills or experience within education.

"In fact, anyone aged 18 or over from any background, who has an average of six to eight hours a month to spare uring term time can add tremendous value to a school's governing body."
