More road misery ahead

Network Rail is carrying out maintenance works to the Ferry Road rail level crossing on Sunday April 22.

It means that Udimore Road residents in Rye will face a detour of more than ten miles if they need to drive into town and bus journeys will also be hit by long delays.

The disruption follows months of rail line closure and road re-surfacing works on the A259.

Rye was hit by more rail disruption over the Easter weekend.

Derick Holman, of Rye Chamber of Commerce, said: “It doesn’t help.”

Rye Mayor John Breeds commented: “Rye again suffered over Easter due to trains not running properly.”

The works take place between 7am and midnight and will be carried out under a temporary road closure, 10 metres either side of the level crossing. A diversion route will be signed and maintained for the duration of the work.

Traffic will be directed on the B2089 Rye to Broad Oak – A28 Broad Oak to Northiam – A268 Northiam to Rye and vice versa.
