Morrisons told the County Times this week that it is planning to open a new store in the village and work could start on the site within the next few months.

The supermarket confirmed the new store will be built in the High Street, in the empty retail units next door to NatWest bank.

The current site is set to be cleared with the empty buildings being replaced by one new store.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “We can confirm Morrisons will be opening a new store in Billingshurst.

“The licence and the planning application were approved last year so the store is coming.

“The developer should be making a start on the site early this year.”

The supermarket added it believed work would begin within the next few months but could not confirm a start date.

Developer Weald Estate Limited applied to demolish the current site and build a new retail unit back in 2013.

The application was approved by Horsham District Council in early 2014 but it was not confirmed at the time who would be moving into the site.
