Mother seriously hurt in road smash

The 30-year-old female driver of the Renault Megane was taken to the Conquest Hospital at Hastings.

Her husband and young baby who were passengers escaped with minor injuries, said police.

The 46-year-old paramedic was unhurt.

No names have been released of the Ninfield family. Fire crews on the scene cut the roof off the Renault to reach the injured occupants.

The paramedic's vehicle came to rest after smashing through the front fence of a near-by garden in Ninfield.

The accident happened on Ninfield Road, at around 9.20 am. The paramedic car was travelling north to an emergency call when it collided with the Renault.

It is believed it had passed a line of traffic moments earlier. The smash created traffic chaos as the road, one of the main routes into Bexhill, was closed for several hours.

Officers from the Bexhill Policing Unit cleared the debris and began an investigation.
