Motorbike challenge will ‘take its toll’ on friends

Rich Hulder, 21, of West Avenue, Worthing, and Lawrence Trousdale-Smith, 23, of Byron Road, Worthing, have created their own sunset to sunrise challenge, which will see them attempt to travel 452 miles from Land’s End in Cornwall to Lowestoft, between sunset and sunrise on June 21 – the shortest night of the year – to raise money for Worthing Churches Homeless Projects.

Rich said: “It’s not going to be an easy challenge, it’s going to take a massive toll on us and it’s going to be exhausting. I haven’t done a challenge like this before, so I’m a little bit nervous.”

The idea for the fundraiser came when Rich saw Jeremy Clarkson do the same route on popular BBC car show Top Gear.

Rich said: “Jeremy did it in a fast car but I said to my friend, I’ve got an idea and if you’re up for it we will do it. I’ve been to a few of the charity’s events and it’s a good cause. The people it helps need looking after and I know how much the charity does for them.”

Rich will ride his Honda CBR500R while Lawrence will tackle the trip on his Kawasaki Z800e. The pair estimate the ride will take around six-and-a-half hours.

Lawrence has also organised a fundraising gig at Bar 42, in Marine Parade, Worthing, on May 30. Entry to the event is £3 and all proceeds will go to the charity.
