MOTORCYCLE HELL FOR VILLAGES

VILLAGERS in Bury say their quality of life is being affected by the anti-social behaviour of some motorcyclists tearing along the A29.Residents and others in the area are frequently disturbed and irritated by noise from the speeding motorbikes, mainly at weekends and bank holidays.

The parish council is concerned that many of the motorcycles are fitted with illegal silencers that create ear-shattering noise at excessive speeds.

Resident Susan Hallock said the motorcyclists race southbound up Bury Hill and gather at the Whiteways Lodge roundabout.

But she said the problem not only affected Bury but many other villages in the area, including Petworth, Tillington, Midhurst, Northchapel, Pulborough, Coldwaltham, Madehurst, Houghton and Duncton.

She said she would like to see a camera measuring average speeds to help combat the problem.
