Motorcyclist '˜will never bike again' after Hastings hit-and-run

The 24-year-old Hastings man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was knocked off his moped when he crashed into a Ford Ka on Old London Road on May 14.

The driver briefly stopped to speak to the biker before driving away, leaving the avid motocross enthusiast in the road.

The crash wrote off his moped and left the man with cuts, bruises and whiplash, as well as the psychological damage which has ruined his favourite hobby.

“I won’t ride again, it’s put a bit of fear into it now so it’s ruined one of my hobbies,” he said.

“It’s not good as it’s the only thing I actually liked doing.

“Although it’s not on the road, you have the fear of getting on to another bike.

“I’m also unemployed and it’s stopped me from getting another job as I can’t really walk.”

The biker was riding his red Yamaha QV-50 Aerox machine in Old London Road at around 9.40pm when he was in a crash with a blue Ford Ka at the junction of Fairlight Road.

Paramedics treated the rider at the scene for injuries to his hands and knees as well as numerous bumps and bruises having been thrown on to the bonnet of the car.

The Yamaha was written off as the frame was bent in two places.

Police believe the car would have sustained damage to the front nearside corner and may well have been marked by a transfer of red paint from the motorbike.

There were other occupants of the Ford, which was of the original Ford body shape, not the latest re-badged Fiat 500 shape, with colour coded bumpers, according to police.

The biker said the driver was very impatient and criticised them for leaving him in the middle of the road.

“The driver clearly has no respect or remorse to anyone else as I could’ve died and he didn’t even care,” he said.
