Motorist with life threatening injuries after A27 Lewes smash

A DRIVER was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries following a serious crash on the A27 near Lewes this morning (Wednesday January 19).

Sussex Police said a man driving a Renault Megane crashed into a fence at around 5.20am.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

The road between the Southerham and Beddingham roundabouts was temporarily closed.

Police said they were working with the Highways Agency to make safe the road as soon as possible.

They thanked the public for their understanding and patience during this time.

The eastbound carriageway has been opened, the westbound carriageway has one lane open and the second lane is anticipated to open shortly.

Police are appealing for witnesses to call 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Broxton.
