Mountfield

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PARTY: As darkness edged across the landscape outside, inside the Village Hall, the lights went down too but up came the disco lights and on came the music. There were about thirty very happy kids playing, dancing, limboing (sort of), getting sprayed by the foam machine and worse under their host for the afternoon from DNA Kids (he was very good). There was a special visitor at the end who dished out presents to enormous excitement. All in all, it was in a fine tradition that stretches back many, many years. Well done to organisers Vicky and Amy with thanks to Sarah Fretwell for the face painting and, of course, to Santa.

In other Club news, the snooker team remain top of the league following eight straight win in the Hurst Green league. We would like to wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

NEW NEIGHBOURS: We had the pleasure of meeting some of the many new neighbours in the village. First of all, welcome to Mandy Brook and Robert Purdie who bought the old pub in John’s Cross. They renovated the old studio behind the pub in double quick time as the hub for their recruitment business. They and their 12-strong team deal in many industrial sectors but mainly specialise in engineering and manufacturing. Having been shown round, we can report that the main building can certainly be described as “a challenge” but they seem undeterred and are pressing ahead with renovating the former restaurant area into a state of the art training room which they propose to offer to local residents at greatly reduced costs. More details nearer the time. The other side of the old pub will be the living quarters for themselves, the two cats and the six rescue dogs. I left with three different sizes of muddy paw prints on my jeans.

AND AT RIVERHALL: We also had the pleasure of meeting Sylvia and John Brady who moved into the Old Bakery six weeks ago with their three dogs. They have moved from deepest Beckenham and, as keen gardeners, are already tackling the garden. Welcome!

THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT: Written by Pete Townsend, that was the title of a track on The Who’s very first album exactly fifty years ago (when probably half the people in the parish weren’t even born!) and it would serve as an anthem for Mountfield. We may have lost our school but just look at the previous items: the wonderful Christmas party, a family film matinee and a carol and toy service. It’s good to see that Mountfield still looks out for its children.

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT: If anyone is struggling to get into the festive season spirit, why not visit http://mountfield.org.uk/ as our clerk, Irene, has put the Christmas decs up and it’s snowing!

CONTACT: If you have anything for the Village Voice, we can be contacted on 880614 or via [email protected]. We always welcome contributions and feedback.
