TWO youngsters from Uckfield became the envy of their friends when they were extras on the new Harry Potter film.

Sophie Beer, 13, and Harry Beer, 9, of Shepherds Way, Ridgewood, became part of the Harry Potter phenomenon because one of their dads' friends works in the special effects department for the film, called Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

They spent five days on set in February and were involved in many scenes, including a scene where one of the main characters, Ron, gets a 'howler', a letter that screams loudly when opened to show the sender's disapproval.

They had to travel to Leaven Studios in Hertfordshire, but both the Beers enjoyed the whole experience.

Sophie said: 'Being on set was excellent. I think my friends are a bit jealous, but I really enjoyed myself. I met the girl who plays Hermione Granger, a main character, and I got a smile from Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter!

'Our mum is really proud of us and is looking forward to seeing us in the film.'

Harry said: 'It was really fun. We were able to look around and see all of the sets. They were amazing, they looked really real. We got to see some special effects, the flying car, and act with some of the owls.

'Being an extra was good, but on one of the days I spent the whole day waiting to get on set. There was a lot of waiting around.'
