Moving misery for Rosemary and Jess

THREE months of misery have been endured by a registered disabled Storrington woman after she had to vacate her home for urgent water pipe repairs to be carried out.

Rosemary Vaughan, 55, moved out of her housing association home in Spierbridge Road on November 26, transferring temporarily to a bungalow in Windmill Copse.

But Mrs Vaughan, who is also asthmatic, is unhappy there, and she complained about how the work authorised by her Saxon Weald landlords at the Spierbridge Road property, had been carried out.

She claimed that some things were broken in the move and the bungalow had five huge steps at the front.

Mrs Vaughan said her lounge carpet, which was less than three years old, had been ruined by workmen with muddy feet, and it had been made worse by attempts to wash it.

A Saxon Weald spokeswoman told the Herald: "Mrs Vaughan's property had three severe water leaks and needed extensive work, which included excavating floors to foundation level and renewing the water mains.

"For her own health and safety, we moved Mrs Vaughan into a bungalow, which she viewed and accepted.

"She did not mention any problems with the five steps and her existing house has two flights of stairs, which she appears to manage without assistance.

"In respect of the carpet, we had it professionally cleaned and are satisfied that this was done to a high standard.

"Mrs Vaughan's home is now ready for her return and we are waiting for her to tell us when she is ready to go."
