The Lewes MP was challenged to a game of ‘snog, marry, avoid’ by presenter John Pienaar, who reeled off a list of names to which Maria had to choose one of the three options for each person.

When asked about Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch, the Conservative politician said ‘avoid’ - the same answer as she gave for US Presidential candidate Donald Trump.

However, she admitted she would snog the Mayor of London and marry the chancellor of exchequer, when made to choose.

During the interview, which can be viewed here, Maria, who is also a nurse, talks about religion and politics.

She spoke about working class backgrounds and when asked if she thought the Conservative Party was too posh, said: “I think it’s perceived as posh but in reality, when you look at those of us who are here, then absolutely not.

“If you look at the new intake, we’ve got people like Scott Mann, who’s a postman, Caroline Ansell, who’s a teacher and there are other nurses who are candidates, who were unlucky not to be elected.
