Tim joined the pupils from Bramber Primary School’s Let’s Get Cooking club on May 6 to cook potato and sweetcorn fritters and mini rock cakes.

Tim said: “It was a welcome respite from the local election count to join an enthusiastic group of pupils at Bramber School getting stuck in at their ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ after-school club.

“I was very impressed by the quality and variety of food on offer to the children. I was also delighted to hear that the club is oversubscribed and very popular.”

The club, part of the Children’s Food Trust’s national network of Let’s Get Cooking clubs supported by The Tesco Eat Happy Project, is one of more than 2,400 schools in England building children’s skills, confidence and knowledge in the kitchen this year.

More than 10,000 children will get the chance to take part in Let’s Get Cooking’s after-school sessions this term so they can go above and beyond what they learn about cooking in the curriculum – learning to cook dishes like mango and chicken pittas, spinach and mushroom lasagne and Thai green curry.

Bramber Primary School’s head teacher Tracy Taylor said: “Bramber Primary children were delighted to be cooking for Tim Loughton.

“Cooking a dish from scratch, learning techniques, developing knowledge about food along the way and taking home something for a family meal is an excellent learning experience.

“Additionally, their communication, self confidence and self-esteem builds and grows each day.”
