MP Greg praises‘Safe’ Battle area

MP Greg Barker has praised ‘community minded people’ for helping to keep crime rates low in the Battle area.

And he has called for more villages to get involved the Community Speedwatch scheme which sees residents manning speed cameras and passing information on speeding to the police.

Mr Barker spoke out after a meeting with East Sussex Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Neil Honnor, to discuss law and order issues in the constituency.

He said: “The risk of becoming a victim of crime in Battle is low with vigilance from members of the public and strong Neighbourhood Watch links helping local officers keep it that way.

“The areas Neighbourhood Policing Teams are dedicated to working closely with local communities to not only keep crime rates low but help make the district even safer.

“One such initiative involving local people is Community Speedwatch, a group of volunteers set up to help monitor speeds on the district’s roads and report speeding road users to police.

“The number of volunteers involved in this innovative scheme grows monthly with more and more trained people aiding the police in making their communities safer.

“I was pleased to hear that crime rates have come down even lower low in Bexhill and Battle.

“It is great to hear that community involvement in Neighbourhood Watch and Community Speedwatch schemes have been so effective in improving the safety of our local communities.”
