MP helps out at RAFA collection

Battle MP Greg Barker turned out on Saturday to lend strength to the Wings Appeal fundraising efforts of the Battle Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA).

Mr Barker spent time visiting all five collection points along Battle High Street

He chatted to the volunteer collectors, their Air Cadet helpers and members of the public – and of course invited members of the public to make contributions.

This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, so all concerned were making a special effort.

Once again the people of Battle demonstrated their public spiritedness in supporting this worthy cause, with Saturday's collections raising a splendid 724.

The money goes towards helping meet the ever-increasing cost of providing help, comfort and support for all former members of the Air Forces and their dependents.

RAFA looks after not just those who were involved in the 1939–45 war, but all who have taken part in the various conflicts over the years since, right up until the recent and current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Chairman of Battle RAF Association, Ron Harris, thanked Mr Barker for taking time out from his busy schedule to support this worthy cause.

Mr Harris also said that the generous support of the people of Battle and the surrounding villages deserved the highest praise.

And he extended the RAF Associations thanks to all that had contributed, not just by way of financial support, but also in volunteering their services to assist in the fundraising efforts.
