MP meets local Rethink charity campaigner at House of Commons

A MEETING recently took place in the House of Commons between Bexhill and Battle MP Greg Barker, and Andrew Voyce, local representative of National mental health charity Rethink.

Greg, who has been an avid supporter of the Time to Change campaign which seeks to challenge stigma and discrimination in mental health, met Bexhill based campaigner Andrew as part of Rethink's lobby day at the Houses of Parliament.

During the meeting Greg heard more about Rethink's 'Fair Treatment Now' campaign.

Speaking outside the Commons Chamber Greg said:

"We still have a long way to go to end the stigma around mental health and ensure that it is treated as an illness like any other.

"The campaign makes important points about the need for new treatments and I am sure that my colleagues in the Department of Health will be looking very closely at these very sensible proposals."

Andrew said he was "very pleased" to meet Greg adding:

"It was great that he found time to meet me. Mr Barker has for a long time supported the Time to Change campaign. It's great to have his support."
