Primary schools across the constituency were invited to submit entries for the MP’s official card and were encouraged to include a connection to Westminster or the constituency in a Christmas picture.

Hope, a pupil at Springfield First School in Worthing, won first prize for her painting featuring St Stephen’s Tower topped with a Santa hat.

Runners up were Claire Hawkes, nine, and Julia Barber, six, from Eastbrook Primary Academy in Southwick, and ten-year-old Daisy Evans from Thomas A’Becket Middle School in Worthing.

Mr Loughton spent Thursday morning touring the three schools to present the prizes.

He said: “I was delighted with the deluge of entries I received this year, with some very artistic efforts and clearly a lot of work and thought had gone into this.

“I am very grateful for all the schools and pupils who took part. It was a very tough competition to judge but in the end I was taken by the simplicity and colours in Hope’s design, which pictured Big Ben in a snow storm with a jaunty Father Christmas hat. It was even more impressive given that Hope is only four.

“I was delighted to be able to present her with a prize in front of her classmates at Springfield and it was great that her mum, gran and aunts were able to be there, too.

“I am particularly grateful to Peter Webb and Worthing multi-award-winning firm ETI, who generously sponsored the printing costs of the card, enabling us to produce one for every house in the constituency so that everyone can enjoy Hope’s masterpiece.”

The Christmas card was delivered to more than 40,000 homes across the constituency, thanks to volunteers.

It includes a calendar, highlighting dates planned for Mr Loughton’s Saturday morning street surgeries, and contact details for constituents needing his help.
