MP renews call for flood protection

A NEED for vital insurance cover for flooding has again been raised in parliament by the Bognor Regis MP.

Nick Gibb has once more pressed the government to ensure those most at risk from a repeat of a disaster such as last June’s can get cover for possessions and properties.

He used a question time session last Thursday with the under-secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs Richard Benyon to urge the insurance industry to replace the current deal for flood-hit households when it ends in June.

Mr Benyon said the highest levels of government were working at a ‘very fast tempo’ to reach a deal.

Mr Gibb said later: “It is vital that agreement is either renewed or a new and better agreement put in place. I will continue to press ministers.”
