MP Maria Caulfield met with the manager of the Sainsbury’s store in Newhaven to discuss issues affecting the branch, its plans for the future and the regeneration of the town.

The MP then took a tour of the store before meeting with staff from a number of departments.

She said: “Sainsbury’s is an important local employer in the town, employing some 300 people at the Newhaven store. I was therefore delighted to be able to meet with the manager, take a tour of the store and meet with the staff. One of my priorities is the regeneration of Newhaven and, as a large employer in the town, Sainsbury’s clearly has a role to play.”

Maria regularly meets with businesses across the constituency to hear issues affecting them and what action they would like to see from the Government.

She added: “I was delighted to hear of the job opportunities available at the store, which already employs around 300 people and would encourage local residents looking for work to get in touch with the store. I was also pleased to hear of the company’s commitment to increasing pay for staff.”
