MP speaks highly of Bexhill at cream tea

The event was the brainchild of museum volunteer and newly-appointed board of directors member Emma Tickner.

With the help of a team of colleagues, Emma prepared and served what was described as ‘a splendid repast’ for visitors including strawberries and scones with cream and jam.

Huw, MP for Bexhill and Battle, was escorted at the event by chairman of the independent, voluntarily-run museum, John Betts.

He went from table to table chatting with visitors and enquiring about the running of the Egerton Road museum, established 101 years ago and spoke highly of Bexhill: “I came here before I was MP and I think it is absolutely fabulous. It’s especially interesting to be here now I am MP,” he said.

“I love coming here; particularly being MP because it gives me an opportunity to see work done in the constituency.

“What I am anxious to see is that we preserve where we need to preserve and enhance where we need to enhance in the legacy of the town.”

The cream tea and raffle raised £359.20 towards the running costs of the museum, which is almost entirely dependent on admission charges for its income. Emma praised everyone who gave generously to make the eve a success. www.bexhillmuseum.co.uk
