Since it opened eight years ago hundreds of family members have come through its doors whose lives have been affected by domestic abuse, alcohol, drugs or acrimonious disputes.
Using a Contact Centre provides families with a safe, friendly and neutral environment where the separated parents don’t have to meet to do the handover, and where the needs of the children are always put first.
Since the changes in legal aid many families do not have a solicitor to support them through the difficult time of separation.
Prior to this change solicitors were able to direct parents to the Contact Centre. We now want to make families that have experienced separation aware of the service that we provide.
Jeremy Quin the local Horsham MP recently visited the Contact Centre in April. He visited the centre to be informed of our service and to have an understanding of the impact of family separation on the local children of Horsham.
It is often a place where bridges are built and enough trust restored for contact to be able to progress beyond the centre and it is often a stepping stone to this. When we see children so excited to see a separated parent for the first time in many months it highlights why we give our time to this service.
Run by trained volunteers and accredited with the National Association of Child Contact Centres it is open every first and third Saturday of each month.
