MP visits local charity

STAFF at Tomorrow's People played host to a very important person.

MP David Willetts, Shadow Secretary for Work and Pensions and Welfare Reform, caught up with the employment charity at its project at Silchester Mews Community Centre.

David Willetts said: "It has been fascinating to see first-hand the excellent work Tomorrow's People does here in Hastings, and to hear the stories of job seekers persevering to find work in some very difficult circumstances."

The Hastings based charity helps people and communities overcome long-term unemployment - including minority groups.

Mr Willetts met Habibah Anwar-Bhatti, Ethnic Minority Employment Adviser, who explained her role in the Black and Minority Ethnic programme.

The programme targets groups eligible to work in the UK but who face barriers in finding, and keeping, a job.

It also focuses on making positive links between the black and minority community and local businesses - and has been working closely with the recruitment department at Sussex Police.
