Maria Caulfield has welcomed new figures showing a continued fall in the number of claimants across the Lewes constituency.

The total number of claimants, including both Jobseeker’s Allowance and Universal Credit, is 29 per cent lower than in August 2014 and 58 per cent lower than in August 2010.

Speaking from the House of Commons, Maria said: “I am delighted by these latest figures, which deliver further good news on our economy, and demonstrate how our one nation government is continuing to deliver for all sections of society, helping them succeed and achieve their full potential.

“Furthermore, wages are rising at the fastest rate since 2002 and 90 per cent of the rise in employment over the last year is from full-time work. Hardworking people have more money in their pocket as a result.”

“The best way to help people break free of welfare dependency is to go on delivering our long term economic plan to reward hard work and creates growth and jobs and we will continue to deliver our ambition to achieve full employment. There is still more to do and we will continue to support those who want to work. We will continue to help businesses create jobs and employ people with the right skills.”
