MP wins no further closures pledge from Post Office PLC

A COMMITMENT from Post Office PLC not to close any further sub-post offices in the constituency if Collington Mansions sub- Post Office is saved has been won by town MP Gregory Barker.

In a letter this week in response to Mr Barker's campaign, Philippa Wright, national consultation manager at Post Office PLC, told the MP: "Should Collington Mansions Post Office branch not proceed to closure, I am able to confirm that we will not be consulting on an alternative closure proposal."

Mr Barker said: "Whilst I welcome this response, I still have huge reservations about these Post Office closures.

"Having stripped more and more services from local Post Offices, the Government is surprised when Post Office PLC complains about their ongoing viability.

"Local communities still rely on even their basic services and axing them in line with centralised targets is an act of vandalism upon local communities."
